A New Tongue Twister

Peter Piper, stop your picking of pickled peppers.  In fact, don't bother pickling peppers at all.  Juice those peppers and drink them raw.  That'll give your tongue something to twist and shout about.

How about this for a tongue twister?  Jackie Jormp-Jomp juiced a jar of jade-colored juice.

Pepper-Upper:
1 green bell pepper
3 cups spinach
3 stalks celery
1 cucumber
3 small apples
Doctor me some pepper juice.

Italian Asparagus Juice

If Martha Stewart can drink asparagus juice, than so can I.  I'm just going to add many other veggies and fruits to hide the flavor.

I cooked Italian for my family tonight.  The air was thick with the fragrance of garlic, basil and tomato sauce.  So I decided to make an Italian Asapargus juice.
Viva, Italia!
Prego, It's In There:
2 cups asparagus
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
3 stalks celery
1 cup romain lettuce
4 tomatoes
2 carrots
1 apple
1 orange

Simple Formula

When I hop on Reboot Your Life website sometimes I find people posting questions about good recipes.  Since I make up my own recipes to suit my personal tastes I am hesitant to suggest them.  But I think a simple formula could be created for unsure juicers to follow.

A good rule of thumb for healthful juice seems to be 80/20 (ratio of veggies to fruit); that would break down to roughly 1 fruit and 4 veggies.  Although all raw veggies have unique and valuable nutrition, the "leafy green" variety are the ones we hear a lot about.  So, 2 of those veggies should be green.  And because some flavors tend to dominate, (like cabbage or radishes) it's a good idea to have just one of the super flavorful veggies, and the others should be mild, juicy fillers (like tomato, cucumber or celery).

Simply put:
1 fruit for every 4 vegetables
Of those 4 vegetables, 2 greens and 1 "dominating" flavor.

What do you think of this formula?

Try This:
3 radishes
3 c. spinach
2 tomatoes
2 apples

Juice Fun vs. Juice Fast

My dabbling in juicing has been very rewarding.  The benefits my husband and I have experienced are increased energy level, decrease craving for junk food, and clarity of thought.  We're basically having fun.

My mom just started the ten-day juice fast.  It is my understanding that the beginning of the fast is very difficult.  My mom is in the trenches of the juice fast.

News from the Trenches
Yesterday was her first day and she drank only juice all day and ate an avocado before bed.  Besides being hungry all the time, she is also not enjoying such delicious recipes as I am.  She is following a strict 80/20 ratio of vegetables to fruit.  Keep up the good work, Mom.

Meanwhile, I will keep having fun.  I find 3:30 in the afternoon to be a groggy time of day for me.  The last few days have been much improved since I've begun juicing.

Afternoon Delight:
1 1/2 c. raw spinach
3 carrots
2 celery stalks
2 apples
1 pear
10 strawberries
1 tomato
